German Grand Championship 2019

1. INTRODUCTION:
Written By CLAUS STAAL

Tobias Winter did a runner-up report from German Nationals last year, where 55 players were in attendance, and this year we've seen the same unfortunate development as experienced at Gen Con 2019 with a severe dip in attendance. Just 32 players showed up for the event, which even for a relatively small German player base is extremely low. No need to go bananas over the development though as it is definitely affected by the fact that the European Championship is scheduled to begin just 4 days after the German Grand Championship. It was never going to be easy to make players travel to two events within such a short time frame.

It was clear for everyone that the tournament was heavily affected by the Gen Con 2019 results as well as marred by the fact that Spark of Hope did not arrive in Germany until the day before the event. Not a lot of time to prepare with the new set.

The eventual winner of the tournament Gerrit Backes, member of YOUR Destiny, is now both the reigning French and German Champion! WUHU! Way to go!

DISCLAIMER:
All participants agreed to let us release their deck lists.

The most beautiful moment of the day though was when Jan Drangmeister, who went to Düsseldorf just to make sure we had a stream available, was playing UNO with his daughter on stream for everyone to watch! Somehow a nice reminder that Destiny is both really important, yet probably one of the least important things in the world.

2. DECKS PLAYED:
Most of the decks, in particular if looking isolated at the top8 decks, are decks that are looking to firmly establish themselves at the top of the meta and book their seats for the foreseeable future in the Gauntlet of Destiny. Expect to see much more of this at future Grand Championships within the Spark of Hope meta.

5. YOUR DESTINY STREAM:
Jan Drangmeister, our German magician, decided to travel to Düsseldorf with his kids just to set up the stream ... THANK YOU! That was pretty awesome. Much of what we do here at YOUR Destiny would simply not be possible without the help of our team and the many people who often agree to help us!STREAM THUMBNAILjpg
Also remember that we will be running a full stream from the European Championship 2019 starting with two Galactic Qualifier Tournaments on Thursday, followed by Heat 1A on Friday, Heat 1B on Saturday and the Top Cut from the event on Sunday!
