WHAT IS THIS?
The "5 Things That Are Hot and Not About Destiny" is our regular weekly segment here at the YOUR Destiny website and meant to be a column on what has been going on, either, in Destiny generally, or in the head of the columnist specifically.
The column will be written by our resident writers and their opinions are obviously just opinions - you might disagree, heck, we'd almost be disappointed if you don't disagree! Feel free to participate in the discussion on our Facebook Page!

5 THINGS THAT ARE "HOT" ABOUT DESTINY!
I am happy about the fact that my favorite blue-skinned Star Wars character got one last hooray before he rotates out of the format. When I played Thrawn/Talzin to a Top 16 finish at Worlds 2018, I was pretty confident that there would be another opportunity for the Grand Admiral to shine, his ability is just too strong to not fit in a competitive deck in some way. And here we are, the Chiss is dominating the Galaxy again (ok ok, North America and Europe) ... And for all the haters, read down below.
2. COMPETITIVE BREAK
National Season in Europe just finished last weekend in Prague, Czech Republic and Regionals are looming on the horizon (come visit us in Trier/Germany on January 19 and fight it out with the "entire" YOUR Destiny crew!). While competitive Destiny is my favorite aspect of the game, after grinding four Nationals in three months I enjoy the competitive break to play Battlefield 5 (still need some squad mates!) in my spare time without having the need to practice. And without an errata we have an even better excuse to keep swdestinydb.com closed for a while. But in the back of my head new ideas keep popping up.
3. CRUSHING DREAMS
When the YOUR Destiny crew crushed dreams in France by taking the crown back to Germany and four more spots in the Top 8, I was very proud of everything we achieved as a team. Not only do we test together, share ideas and make us overall better players, but we are also kind enough to pass on our chance to win a tournament in order to push our teammates that still do not have a reserved seat or bye for Worlds/Nationals. And just to clarify, the new French Champion, Gerrit Backes, beat me fair and square 2-1 in the Top 4!
4. UPCOMING ROTATION
The upcoming rotation will be a major turning point in the history of Star Wars Destiny. For the first time, an entire cycle rotates out of Standard Format and with it staple cards like Force Illusion, Holdout Blaster, Ancient Lightsaber or Hyperspace Jump. It will be an exciting time when we have to take into consideration cards that we deemed unplayable before. Old habits and patterns die hard, but we have to let them go eventually.
5. NEUTRAL CHARACTERS
When the Rivals Draft Set introduced Neutral characters, I was hoping that a new set would bring us more thematic characters like Lando Calrissian from The Empire Strikes Back. I have a weak spot for morally questionable, ambiguous, “grey” characters, but it took FFG another year to bring us Han Solo and Qi’Ra and I hope we will get more of them, maybe even in red or blue. That brings me to…
5 THINGS THAT ARE "NOT" ABOUT DESTINY!
1. LANDO AND BECKETT ...
The new Lando Calrissian and Tobias Beckett. Which scruffy looking nerf-herder had the idea to make them hero or villain respectively? In my opinion a lost opportunity to bring the spirit of the Han Solo movie into the game.
I’ll probably gonna get a lot of hate for the next two points from different player groups, but here we go anyway ;)
'Stop whining' when a character pairing seems indomitable for a few weeks. Get your team together and find a deck to beat it or wait until the new hotness comes around and shakes things up again. I’m sick and tired of the same Facebook post over and over and over again, especially when at the same time ...
... players are using cards in a way they are clearly not intended to. No, Qui-Gon Jinn’s Lightsaber shouldn’t let you win the game automatically and no, even if it is possible to roll up to your local store tournament with OTK Buy Out mill at the moment, you do not have to! Be a role model, do not scr*w with the rules just because someone in game testing messed up. We all know these things will be fixed anyway, so stop exploiting them!
4. NOT COMING UP WITH NEW IDEAS
As we all are awaiting a nerf on Snoke, some players are desperately trying to keep specific character pairings with him alive, even though they have to cut a lot of corners to make it happen. I even saw this phenomenon at Worlds 2018 this year when one of the top players from 2017 showed up with the same deck again and got crushed. As you can see in HOT #1: I have my personal favorites as well, but sometimes we just have to let go and start from scratch.
BUT THAT WAS ONLY 4 THINGS THAT WERE "NOT" ... We know!
